Lisa Burton – Testimonials
“As an IPP prisoner maintaining my innocence, I was facing a huge battle in convincing the Parole Board that I was ready for open conditions, I was given Lisa Burton’s number and after deciding to get legal representation I spoke to Lisa.
From that initial phone call I knew I had the right person fighting my corner. Lisa was straight forward, upfront and had a reassuring knowledge of all aspects of my case and prison law, she made me feel comfortable leading up to and during my Parole Board and was always available when I called to speak to her. I’m truly grateful to Lisa and I am now, from open conditions positively working towards my end of tariff parole.”
Prison Law Client, Parole Board Review
“I was a serving IPP prisoner and could not see any light at the end of the tunnel. One day I was looking through the inside times to find a firm to represent me. Though I heard many good reviews, the real diamond in the ruff was being represented by a cool Ms Lisa Burton. Not only did she keep her every appointment, she was able to keep me focused on my goal and at times lift me out of a dark place where I could have lost it on a number of occasions. The real glory of being represented by Ms Lisa Burton was the way she handled my case in front of the three members of the board, I was in no doubt this lady had secured my release. I just would like to take this moment to say a very big thank you from myself and my family and I wish you all the very best for the future.”
Prison Law Client, Parole Board Review
I am writing this as a letter of recommendation, for the legal services provided to my Fiancé for his parole hearing, by Lisa Burton. He is currently two years over tariff of an IPP sentence.
My partner had, had 3 parole deferrals, all due to incorrect paper work, and had very poor legal representation. We were both feeling very deflated and unsure of the future. Lisa was recommended to us by another of her clients, who like my partner was an IPP prisoner, that she had recently represented. To say that Lisa was a breath of fresh air, is an understatement.
Within a couple of weeks of his initial contact with Lisa, she had been to see him, and we were given a new parole date. Lisa maintained contact with both myself and my fiancé over the next 6 weeks and answered all of our queries, capably and effectively. Leaving us both feeling very confident.
On the date of the hearing, we were applying for release or D categorization. My fiancés, offender manager did not support this and wanted closed conditions to remain. Lisa arranged for me to be able to attend the hearing and although I was nervous, I am glad that I did.
Lisa had a hard battle with My Fiancés Offender manager and the reporting, psychologist. Her arguments in cross examination were clear and concise, and most importantly she listened to my partner’s concerns and reiterated them in her line of questioning.
My fiancé was given his D Categorization as a result of the hearing. Which means that he will probably be having home leaves for my birthday next year, for the first time in 8 years!
Lisa Burton, is a strong and determined, women. Who is fantastic at what she does and I firmly believe that without her, we would still be no closer to coming home.”
Prison Law Client
Andrew Sperling – Testimonials
“Andrew, without exceptions, maintains a very positive and constructive approach and this has enabled other stakeholders to work together to resolve issues, whereas in the past the relationships have been typified by criticism and defensiveness. I have observed Andrew as having played a key role in making this shift happen, not least in his role as Chair of the Association of Prison Lawyers, and it is now proving a strong basis on which all stakeholders are working together to transform and improve the process for all those involved.”
Martha Blom-Cooper – Former Director of Professional Standards for the Parole Board
“It was a really complicated piece of litigation. He was brilliant as an instructing solicitor, dealing with clients, opponent, court and LSC in respect of some very tricky issues and including some extremely complicated case management. He was a strong team player, working through factual and legal issues, gathering evidence and scrutinising legal submissions. He made a huge contribution to thinking through the legal arguments, considering the case from all angles and working out what evidence would support it. He put in vast amounts of time, far more than he would ever be remunerated for because his highest priority was to do the case justice.”
