Olliers Solicitors are delighted to announce that we are holding an event, ‘Anyone can find themselves caught up in a criminal investigation’, in partnership with Pro-Manchester.
The event will take place on Wednesday the 10th of May, at Virgin Money, 48-50 Market Street, Manchester, M1 1PW. The event will start at 12pm and is likely to last until 1:30pm.
Matthew Claughton – Managing Director
Matthew is Olliers Solicitors’ Managing Director and is ranked by the 2023 Legal 500 as a top tier practitioner. He is the 2023 Northern Powerhouse Criminal Lawyer of the Year.
Quotes from the Legal 500 include ‘Matt Claughton – Managing Partner, the go to solicitor for private crime. Impeccable acquittal rate, straight talking but super bright’
Matthew is the 2021 winner of the Legal Awards Partner of the Year having previously won the award in 2015. Matthew has been with the firm for 33 years and specialises in defending allegations of serious crime, fraud, regulatory matters and sexual offences. He is often asked to act for clients during the investigative stage of the criminal process and has a reputation for dealing with crisis management focusing not only on avoiding a criminal charge but also minimising the negative consequences of an investigation.
Ruth Peters – Business Development & Marketing Director
Ruth Peters is Olliers Solicitors’ Business Development and Marketing Director, leading the Business Development Team at Olliers. She has been with the firm for 18 years having an enviable level of experience across the entire spectrum of criminal defence.
Ruth was the Manchester Legal Awards 2021 Solicitor of the Year and is shortlisted in the 2023 Manchester Legal Awards for Partner of the Year.
Laura Baumanis – Partner
Laura specialises in representing clients at the police station and pre-charge investigative stage, particularly cases involving domestic and sexual allegations.
More recently, in 2022, Laura was appointed by the Lord Chief Justice as a Deputy District Judge on the Northern Circuit to sit within the Civil and Family Jurisdiction.
The event is designed to provide an insight into how anyone can in fact find themselves involved in a criminal investigation and how, at Olliers, we focus on early pre-charge engagement to bring cases to an early conclusion to avoid minimum publicity.
What sets Olliers apart from many criminal defence firms is the proactive approach we adopt during a criminal investigation. We have an excellent reputation for representation before the criminal courts but the best possible outcome is when an investigation ends without our client being prosecuted.
We understand the stress and anxiety a criminal investigation can cause. The work we undertake for clients during this stage of the criminal process goes way beyond a police station attendance. Prior to and following an interview under caution, our team will do everything it can to minimise the likelihood of a client under investigation being charged with a criminal offence and our team of over 20 defence lawyers place huge emphasis on the pre charge stage of a case.
The event is free to attend – to book your place please click here.
