Laura Baumanis appointed by the Lord Chief Justice as a Deputy District Judge on the Northern Circuit

We are delighted to announce Laura Baumanis has been appointed by the Lord Chief Justice as a Deputy District Judge on the Northern Circuit to sit within the Civil and Family Jurisdiction.

Laura Baumanis – Criminal Defence Partner

Laura is a partner at Olliers and specialises in representation at the pre-charge stage of criminal investigations and prides herself on achieving the best possible outcome for her clients. Laura is known for her pro-active approach during the ongoing investigation stage of a case. She will always look to bring an investigation to a conclusion without the need for a prosecution. She is known for her strategic approach liaising with investigators throughout. She applies a combination of formal and informal representations to police and prosecutors ensuring that the chances of a prosecution are kept to a minimum. Laura has significant experience in dealing with cases at this stage particularly cases involving sexual allegations.

What do Deputy District Judges do?

Deputy District Judges sit on a fee-paid basis in the County Courts and District Registries of the High Court for between 15 and 50 days a year. In general, their jurisdiction is the same as that of a District Judge. The work of District Judges involves a wide spectrum of civil and family law cases such as claims for damages and injunctions, possession proceedings against mortgage borrowers and property tenants, divorces, child proceedings, domestic violence injunctions, court of protection, anti-social behaviour injunctions, committals and insolvency proceedings.
