Last week a team from Olliers spent the afternoon gardening and tidying up at the Roman Gardens in Castlefield.
Working alongside Tina, Ann and Carol from the Friends of the Roman Gardens group, we were involved in planting bulbs, clearing ivy, weeding paths and litter picking.
During the course of a busy afternoon we generated approximately 40 bags of waste and debris.
The Olliers participants were David Philpott, Nathalie Hudson, Saskia Abbot, Helen Buxton, Sami Halpern, Stacey Mabrouk, Alex Preston, Tim McArdle and David Abbott. At the end of the afternoon we enjoyed a well earned drink courtesy of The Oxnoble.
The Roman Gardens are a much needed green space located in the heart of Castlefield. There are ambitious plans to transform the gardens by opening up the site and making it fully accessible to everyone. Last year there was a successful crowd funding project and the Friends of the Roman Gardens group are working alongside organisations including Castlefield Forum, Manchester City Council and others to bring about these changes.
There are regular gardening and tidy-up sessions organised by the Friends group and Olliers will certainly be involved again.
