Kathryn Lloyd

Senior Associate

Kathryn started her career with Olliers over 20 years ago, during which she qualified as a solicitor in 2001 specialising in police interview representation and Magistrates’ Court Advocacy. Kathryn left Olliers when she moved away from Manchester and she has most recently been working as an agency prosecutor for the CPS.

Kathryn re-joins Olliers as a Senior Associate and brings with her a wealth of knowledge, experience and the advantage of having worked as both a defence and prosecuting lawyer.

At Olliers Kathryn specialises in representing clients at the pre-charge investigative stage particularly in relation to allegations of a sexual nature, domestic allegations and cases involving indecent images.

Recent Cases

  • R v W 2025 – successful pre-charge engagement case where a 19 year old was facing allegations of rape and administering a noxious substance. Through 18 months of pre charge engagement Kathryn Lloyd provided statements and text messages to the police which undermined the account of the witness, followed by representations against charge resulting in no further action against Olliers client.
  • R V T 2025 – successful pre-charge case where our client had been accused of rape. Our client is a solicitor and therefore a charge would have led to him not being able to practice. Through pre charge engagement we were able to obtain disclosure from the family courts which undermined the account given to police and disclose further statements and evidence to undermine the account given. This resulted in the CPS taking no further action.
  • R v M 2025 – Uxbridge Magistrates Court, serious case dismissed against Olliers client. Our client had been charged with being drunk on a plane, failing to obey orders of the captain, a racially aggravated public order offence, disorderly conduct on a plane and common assault. These offences, if convicted would have resulted in a significant custodial sentence for our client despite him having no previous convictions. As well as challenging the Crown as the jurisdiction of a UK court to hear the case, Kathryn Lloyd was able to successfully challenge CPS failures in the preparation of the case, thereby forcing the Crown to make an application to adjourn the trial which was refused by the District Judge. As a result the Crown had to offer no evidence in respect of all charges and the case was dismissed. A wasted costs order is to be made against the CPS.
  • R v S 2025 – successful pre-charge case which resulted in no further action for our client who had been accused of sexual assault. Through pre-charge engagement we were able to provide witness statements to show that the complainant had given differing accounts to that given to the police, which undermined the credibility of the witness to such an extent that there was no realistic prospect of conviction.
  • R v M 2025 – successful pre-charge case where our client was accused of a number of sexual offences, controlling and coercive behaviour and assault. Our client is a dentist and therefore a charge alone in this case would have prevented him from practising. Through pre charge engagement we were able to provide statements that undermined the account given by the complainant and provided a potential motive for a false complaint resulting in no further action.
  • R V B 2025 – Manchester Magistrates court, Kathryn Lloyd successfully has guilty plea set aside for client. Following poor advice from another firm our client had entered a guilty plea to a serious offence of stalking with intention to cause fear of violence. He had pleaded not guilty to controlling and coercive behaviour and the case had been listed for trial. A custodial sentence would have been inevitable if convicted of both. Kathryn Lloyd made representations to the CPS that the earlier guilty plea had been entered on poor advice and the evidence did not support such a charge. The CPS agreed and the guilty plea was set aside. Further representations were made that there was insufficient evidence of controlling, coercive behaviour and the Crown withdrew the charge. Client pleaded guilty to a lesser stalking offence, over a period of just 3 days and received a conditional discharge, when he had previously been advised he was facing a significant custodial sentence.
  • R v R 2025 – Kathryn Lloyd secures an acquittal at North Staffordshire Magistrates Court for a teacher charged with criminal damage. Kathryn represented this client following  an allegation that she had committed criminal damage at her son’s place of work following an employment law dispute. The impact of a conviction on our client, as a teacher, would have been substantial and would have probably lead to the loss of her career. Kathryn was the trial advocate and was able to secure her an acquittal.
  • R v W 2024 – successful representation at police station and pre-charge engagement resulting in no further action for alleged sexual communications with a child.
  • R v H 2024 – successful pre-charge representations leading to no further action for indecent images and a conditional caution for possession of extreme pornography thereby avoiding  court proceedings.
  • R v U 2024 – arranged for re-interview for a client who had received poor legal advice at the police station. Representation at the police station by Kathryn to advance his account, when he had previously been advised to answer no comment, and pre-charge representations led to no further action being taken on an assault occasioning actual bodily harm allegation.
  • R v G 2023 – client was accused of a wounding offence. He was due to move to the United States to live with his American wife and a conviction for violence of this nature would have prevented him from doing so. The Police were looking to proceed with a “victimless” prosecution. By way of pre-charge representations Kathryn was able to persuade the Police that it was not in the interests of justice to proceed with a prosecution. Client is now able to apply for an American visa unhindered.
  • R v M 2023 – Magistrates Court representation for client who was pleading guilty to a breach of notification requirements. Sentencing guidelines indicated that he was at risk of custody but Kathryn was able to persuade Court that there was exceptional mitigation and he was made subject to a conditional discharge.
  • R v H 2023 – Representation of a youth who had previously been found to be in possession of 1 indecent image of a child. Through representations against charge Kathryn was able to persuade the Police that it was not in the public interest to prosecute. He therefore kept his clean record when applying for university and employment.
  • R v F 2023 – Successful pre-charge representation against an allegation of rape. A further interview was arranged with the Police as the client did not feel he had had been able to best communicate his account at the first interview. Kathryn was able to take over all communications with the Police whilst the client was an inpatient at a rehabilitation centre, enabling him to concentrate on his recovery. She was involved in providing the Police with further digital evidence from the client and made full representations as to why there was not a realistic prospect of conviction. No further action was taken against the client.
  • R v H 2023 – Representation at pre-charge, magistrates court and subsequent Crown Court sentence. Client had accepted being in possession of a large number of indecent images of children. He had been supported through the pre-charge stage and signposted towards the Safer Lives programme as well as a psychosexual therapist which had provided him with substantial mitigation by the time of his sentence as well as benefiting his wellbeing. Despite sentencing guidelines indicating a likely custodial sentence he was made subject to a community order and we successfully challenged the draconian conditions being sought by the Prosecution.
  • R v K – representation at police station and youth court of vulnerable, autistic 15 year old client facing allegation of murder.
