Many people mistakenly assume that most speeding offences carry a fixed penalty of 3 points and a £60 fine however this is simply not the case. The first thing the authorities will look at is how far over the speed limit you were and penalties can range between 3 – 6 points or a disqualification between 7 and 56 days! Motorists often fail to realise that some circumstances (such as carrying passengers at the time!) can aggravate the offence and increase the penalty!
