JIMMY MUBENGA – OLLIERS STATEMENT ON BEHALF OF G4S GUARDS

Written 17th December 2014 by Olliers Solicitors

Olliers represent three former employees of G4S charged with the manslaughter of Jimmy Mubenga, an Angolan man being deported on a British Airways flight in 2010, who died following being restrained.

The case was a difficult one that attracted much press attention. Alex Preston of Olliers represented the defendants from the police station, through the inquest proceedings and ultimately at trial. The jury heard six weeks of complex evidence and found them not guilty of all counts on the indictment in a swift, unanimous verdict.

Following the verdict Alex Preston commented:

“Terry Hughes, Colin Kaler and Stuart Tribelnig bitterly regret the death of Mr Mubenga but have always said they were trying to do a very difficult job in difficult circumstances, to the best of their ability.

They are grateful to the judge and jury for the care they have taken resolving these sad events.”

Olliers instructed a brilliant team of barristers: Orlando Pownall QC of 2 Hare Court and Katy Thorne of Doughty Street acted for Terry Hughes; Patrick Gibbs QC of 3 Raymond Buildings and Kevin Donnelly of Lincoln House for Stuart Tribelnig; and Joel Bennathan QC of Doughty Street and Jane Greenhalgh of 23 Essex Street for Colin Kaler.
