Sharmila Salvi, Criminal Defence Barrister, London
Sharmila was called to the Bar in 1997 and qualified as a solicitor with Olliers in 2001. She has in excess of twenty years of experience of the full spectrum of criminal defence work and has been based in London for the last fifteen years.
Sharmila is a Higher Court Advocate. Her experience in the Crown Court and Magistrates’ Court includes cases of murder, violence, drugs offences, people smuggling, terrorism, money laundering as well as allegations of serious fraud. Sharmila is a Crown Court advocate and has an excellent record in jury acquittals.
Sharmila is a specialist sexual offences lawyer and has extensive experience of dealing with offences of rape, serious sexual assault and possession of indecent images. Sharmila’s particular expertise lies in indecent images cases and she has many years of experience of both the common law and statutory defences available in such matters. Sharmila has dealt with a number of cases where clients have been unaware of the existence of indecent images on their devices and has a panel of forensic experts at her disposal. She takes a proactive approach to the preparation and defence of sexual offence cases and frequently represents clients at the investigation stage where her robust representations frequently result in her clients facing no charges.
In addition Sharmila is a highly experienced asset recovery lawyer and is frequently involved in restraint proceedings which can have a paralysing effect upon those facing criminal investigation. Post-conviction Sharmila is regarded as a “go to” specialist.
