Olliers specialises in the preparation of large scale, complex and often high profile fraud and criminal cases. We were one of the original members of the Specialist Fraud Panel and our teams are highly experienced in dealing with cases prosecuted by the Serious Fraud Office, the Department of Trade and Industry, HM Revenue and Customs and the Police at local, regional and national level.
Nationally, few firms have comparable experience in dealing with HMRC prosecutions. Partner Richard Holiday and his team have acted in relation to a significant number of major operations over recent years including Operations Emersed, Ginseng, Shepherd, Dossal, Euripus, Gelling, Foxtrot and Vaulter. In 2008 Richard acted in what was claimed to be HMRC's largest ever prosecution.
A specialist department undertakes an increasing amount of Restraint, Receivership, Confiscation and Asset Recovery work. Experience was expanded in 2004 to include the Court of Appeal guideline case of Capewell, which set guidelines clearly defining the role of the Court Appointed Receiver in Revenue & Customs cases (guidelines confirmed by the House of Lords in 2007). Jeremy Pinson's team is currently involved in a number of high profile confiscations and in early 2009 concluded the largest one which had involved a benefit figure of just under £200 million.
The Team have experience of the full range of criminal cases including gangland murders, multi-handed drug conspiracies, allegations of terrorism, people smuggling and a wide range of cases involving undercover operations. The team is highly experienced in handling such cases and employs a robust and proactive approach. The firm is particularly adept at unearthing evidence through unused material, examining in great detail the behaviour of prosecution witnesses, the Police and informants. Olliers refuse to take anything at face value. |
